2D-3D Pavilion

Project Description
We were prompted to use styles of 2D patterns to creatively combine and produce a new pattern. This new 2D pattern would be the base to raise into a 3D pavilion of some sort. The largest emphasis was to think about how light and shadow would interact with the pavilion and the surfaces within.

Inspiration
This black and white pattern is a combination between Pop Art and Italian Mosaic styles. It serves as the 2D face that turned into a 3D extrusion model.

Process
The three patterns to the right respectively portray a Pop Art style, a Toile de Jouy, and an Italian Mosaic pattern.
I used the three styles to come up with a variety of combinations to create new 2D patterns.
Choosing the combination pattern all the way to the right, I created a 3D extrusion of the 2D pattern face. I sketched and prototyped this 3D extrusion model with my own interpretation of the new pattern. This allowed me to discover flaws and curb my design for my final product.
